Thule Cargo Box Shipment

9 12 2011

Seasons Greetings!

We at Rack Attack Coquitlam like to get amped up for the Ski Season just like everyone else. We just do it in a slightly different way. Every year around this time we get a HUGE shipment of Cargo Boxes to make sure we have stock on all your Ski and Cargo carrying needs. Just yesterday we received our winter stock of Thule Atlantis and Boxter Cargo boxes. Our stock includes the Atlantis 1200, 1600, 1800, 2100 and the très sleek Boxter.

Image

All of the Atlantis/Boxter cargo boxes are made of a ABS plastic making them light weight, long lasting, sun resisting and much more environment friendly then the dreaded PVC. Thule Cargo boxes open on both sides and have a central locking system, making it secure and easier to load your gear on wider vehicles. Another slick feature of Thule cargo boxes is their Quick-Grip mounting system technology, with a couple turns of the 4 mounting knobs your box is off and on in minutes. No more struggling with bolts and hardware, huzzah!

How many skis/boards can each box carry? Good question, here is a break down on the Ski/board carrying capacity of each box.

The Boxter is Thule’s most aerodynamic and easily best looking box. Retailing at $1099.99 It will carry between 6-8 pairs of skis with a max length of 205cm or 4-6 snowboards. If you’re looking for something that hugs the roof in all the right ways, looks fantastic and allows you to carry even Andre The Giant sized skis, the Boxter is for you. It fits pretty much every vehicle as well!

The Atlantis 2100 is Thule’s Largest Cargo box and retails for $949.99. This 21 cubic footer has an amazingly Duggar sized family ski/board capacity of 10-12 skis or 6-8 boards and has a max length of 220 cm!

The Atlantis 1800 will allow you to carry 6-8 skis, 4-6 boards with a max length of 198cm and retails for $879.99.

The Atlantis 1600 has a capacity of 6-8 skis, 3-4 boards with a max length of 178cm, fits almost every car and retails for $759.99

Last but not least is the Atlantis 1200. The 1200 is perfect if you don’t have much cross bar space, or want to eventually be able to carry a bike beside it. The 1200 allows for 5-6 pairs of skis or 2-3 boards with a max length of 192cm.

No matter what your storage or ski carrying needs are, we at Rack Attack take joy in finding a solution that works for you. Drive safe, ride hard and do your best to enjoy the upcoming ski/board season!

Shred on!

Yakima Control Towers and SportRack Basket on Ford Escort

16 11 2011

At Rack Attack Coquitlam, not only is the Yakima Control Tower one of our most popular installs, it is arguably the easiest permanent mount system to use on the market today. The Control towers by Yakima can be used in a number of different applications. For example a ton of the newer cars and trucks these days have factory mounting spots of the roof for aftermarket roof racks, which allows you to attach a rack to the roof  without drilling a bunch of holes in nice new vehicle. Another popular way to mount roof racks is on a track system which gives you a fully adjustable bar spread along the track. For the vehicles that don’t already have factory mounting points or a track system installed on the roof, four landing pads are permanently mounted to the roof of the vehicle (all drilled holes are sealed with silicon to prevent leaking in the future). The position of the landing pads are completely dependent on what you are going to be using the roof rack for (carrying an aluminum boat? probably want the bars as far apart as possible. Basket, Cargo Box or bike? a 30″ bar spread would be just fine). With its easily detachable tower, it literally takes a few seconds to install and uninstall this rack on your vehicle and can effortlessly be done without the help of a friend. For the people who don’t have an excess of space in their car or truck, a roof rack is definitely an easy way to pile more cargo into your vehicle with the help of a rooftop box or basket.

Jeep Wrangler With A Boxter and Whispbar Mounted On A Track.

15 09 2011

Here at Rack Attack Coquitlam we like to think that we can put a rack on just about anything. A common problem for vehicles that come with fiberglass roofs  (EX: a tent trailer, or canopy for a truck) is that there is usually no options coming directly from the factory for racks. One of the most common vehicles to come with a fiberglass roof would be the Jeep Wrangler our rack experts have a solid yet simple way to mount roof racks or tracks on to fiberglass tops.

We mounted a 60″ track on this jeep wrangler and attached a set of the all new Whispbar just released under Yakima. The Whispbar is the arguably one of the quietest roof racks on the market. On top of the Whispbar racks we have a Thule Boxter, the Boxter is one of the most solid cargo boxes ever created. With steel bar reinforcement on the bottom end and a reenforced lid to help cut down on wind noise and help keep the box structurally sound at high speeds.  The extremely quite Whispbar combined with the strength of the boxer and the Yakima track mounted to the roof  gives the ability to carry about 110 pounds of cargo inside the box.

To mount the track to the fiberglass roof we don’t use the regular hardware we would for mounting a track onto a sheet metal roof. We use small wing nobs to secure the track down guaranteeing a leak free fit for any fiberglass roof. The wing nobs also give you a clean fit on the inside of the jeep, you have several small wing nobs running the length of the track. This is a much better option instead of running bulky nuts and washers that would run the distance of the track.

At our Rack Attack Coquitlam store we have over 15 cargo boxes on display at any given time and more than 20-30 different sizes, colours, and shapes to fit anything from a Smart car to a stretched expedition limousine.

Yakima Skybox Lowpro 15 on Bmw X5 installed at Rack Attack Coquitlam

14 09 2011

At Rack Attack Coquitlam we carry and stock over 30 different cargo box’s made by Yakima, Thule and Sport Rack. I had a customer come in with a nice newer BMW X5 but he need a box that was low profile and long enough for his skis. Also he wanted to have a cargo box that was sleek and stylish so we suggested the Yakima Skybox 15 lowpro in Onyx which just came out this spring in that finish.  .. seen here  http://www.rackattack.com/product-pages/yakima-skybox-lopro-15-onyx.asp.

The other box the customer was considering was the Thule Boxter 18 which is also a nice looking box but was too high to clear his under ground parking at his place in Whistler. http://www.rackattack.com/product-pages/thule-611-boxter.asp?item_type=5  In the end we tried 4-5 different box’s on the customers car and he ended up going with our first suggestion. As we both agreed it looked the best, was very easy to get on and off the vehicle, plus it even comes with a solar panel with a built-in light. So at night you can see your gear in the box..

Rack Attack had a customer that came in and was looking at the most possibilities and the highest weight ratings. Going with the 42″ track and Thule 430 towers with the TK1 kit gave the customer the most versatility. Doesn’t matter if it’s carrying gear, canoes, bike racks,  ski/snowboard racks, you  can do it all! The Thule 690 M.O.A.B. = mother of all baskets, can carry a hole whack of gear. Heck even if you have too much stuff on your bars and basket the basket even comes with Thule bars to mount more stuff onto it! So that means you can mount stuff, onto your stuff, then that stuff mounts to that stuff, which then mounts to your Jeep. Which is good stuff, because the Jeeps don’t carry much stuff! And if you still have more stuff then you can get a hitch on the Jeep then mount a Terrapin to carry even more of your stuff.

The Thule TP42 tracks can be order with hardwear to fit Jeep roofs.

2009 Subaru Forester with Thule 450 Crossroads, Atlantis 1800 and hitch.

22 03 2009

Here is a look at the new Subaru 2009 Forester that has been all racked out. First at Rack Attack Coquitlam we started out with the base rack, the Thule 450 Crossroad towers that grab the factory raised rail like a glove. As an upgrade you can also go with the Thule 450r aero bar system, but this customer decided not to, to keep everything on the car black. This customer was using it to carry the Atlantis 1800 cargo box. But Thule 450  base rack is a good start to carry anything from bike, skis, canoes, kayaks, ladders, wood, etc.  The Atlantis 1800 was a good fit as it cleared the rear hatch and antenna and also didn’t stick past the front wind screen. At Rack Attack Coquitlam we also installed Hitches. For this vehicle there is was a Curt hitch for it, and the customer is going to use it for their Thule hitch mounted bike rack. The hitch was a simple installation you just need to remove the 5 rubber hangers to allow roomthe the hitch to fit, enlarge the  two holes with a step up drill bit, feed the hitch wire feeders into the frame rail, torque everything down and then reinstall  the 5 hangers to put the exhaust back into place.  I found using silicon spray on the rubber exhaust hangers made them easier to un install and reinstall… Also be care-full when you remove the 5th exhaust hanger in front of rear axle as the dual exhaust is heavy, especially if it hits you in the head.

Thule Ascent 1100

21 03 2009

The Thule Ascent 1100 is a 11 cubic foot box at a good value. The customer came into Rack Attack Coquitlam looking for a cargo box that was lowprofile and narrow enough to put a canoe beside it. The customer origanilly was looking at the Yakima Space Booster 11 but it was two high and didn’t have the dual-side opening or wind tunnel testing that the Thule Ascent had.  So being both affordable and the size and dimensions she was looking for it was done, especially because her some loved the box. The Thule Ascent 1100 can carry anything from small children, 5-6 pairs of skis, or some camping gear etc…… Warning!!!! Rack Attack does not recommend putting children into cargo box at any time!!!thule-005 http://www.rackattack.com/product-pages/thule-602-ascent.asp

Thule Hullavator 897XT on Ford Expedition

18 03 2009

A lot of SUV’s, CUV’s, and Minivans are quite high and for the average height person makes loading and unloading kayaks a slow and difficult taskhullavator-on-ford-expedition-2. But not with the new Thule 897XT Hullavator it drops down to the side of the vehicle about 40″ and takes about 90% of the weight or up to 75lbs. Making loading a kayak a one person job even with vehicles that are high. At Rack Attack in Coquitlam we recently had a customer that was vertically challenged like myself and she had a Ford Expedition which made matters worse. So after seeing our video on www.rackattack.com she had to have the Thule Hullavotor. Because a lot of factory racks are not that strong or will not work with the Hullavator, we also recommended going with the Thule 430 system, Tk1′s, 6 pack locks (4 for the base rack and 2 for the Hullavator’s),  and 58″ Thule bars to finish it off.
