Thule 9025 & 9026 Apex and 9027 Apex Swing

3 07 2012

We here at Rack Attack get giddy like kids at Christmas every time Yakima or Thule come out with new product. Its a chance for us to test new things, work on new sales pitches and say goodbye to old friends.

For the 2012 bike season Thule has redesigned their entire line up of Hitch Mounted bike racks. We have already had a look at the Vertex line of bike racks, now its time to have a peek at Thule’s premium Apex line. Since we received our first shipment the Apex bike racks have been selling like beaded necklaces during Mardi Gras.

The 9025 Apex 4 (Retail $479.99), 9026 Apex 5 (Retail $499.95) and 9027 Apex Swing (Retail $599.99) are Thule’s top of the line bike racks. Both non-swing away models come ready right out of the box to fit your class I, II or class III trailer hitch, the Swing can only be used on class III hitches. For class I hitches you can carry two bikes and for class III you can carry up to 4 or 5 bikes to a maximum of 150 lbs. The Apex Series comes fully loaded with RDT (Road Dampening Technology).

What does RDT really mean you ask? Let me explain, for those of you that like to travel off the beaten path the RDT cradles will absorb some of the shock from the pot holes and uneven dirt roads keeping your bike nice, comfy and well…cradled. I have added some pictures of the spiffy new cradles so you can see their multicolored ways. Arched arms help the Apex keep your bikes from touching each other as you drive around. The Apex also has extra mast height so your bikes sit higher giving you more clearance for those pesky speed bumps and an Arch shaped arm design to help your bikes sit at different heights. Tires everywhere rejoice! HURRAY!

The Apex series is also one of the most secure bike racks on the market. The Apex comes with a built in cable lock that thief proofs your bikes to the rack and a locking hitch knob to keep your rack safely fastened to your car. The hitch knob is somewhat similar to the Helium model bike racks, as you tighten the knob it forces a wedge into the hitch making the Apex contact all 4 corners of the hitch, giving it extra no jiggle stability. With the Apex series the day of the Hitch Pin is finally over, the Apex has a handy safety arm making it that much more painless to remove your bike rack when you no longer need it. Worried about the weight of Apex? Worry not! The Apex has a nifty handle on the back of its head making it that much easier to lug it from the back of your car to your hopefully organized garage.

Ever get your bikes loaded only to figure out you forgot to put ice in the cooler? With most bike rack you have to remove all the bikes to get into the back of the car, not with the Apex Swing. The Apex Swing has the strength to move the bikes away from your vehicle so you can get full access into the back without having to dance around the “mast”. With a turn of a knob and a lift of a lever the Apex Swing safely moves your bikes to the side of the car making it easy to get in and out. If you’re a camper or go on long trips and like to take your bikes with you the Apex Swing will save you time and hassle allowing access into the back of the car with the bike still secured on.

So that is the Apex line of Thule’s bike racks. We have stock on all the different models and display both the Swing and Non-Swing versions of the Apex so you can come down to our shop and try out or displays.

Enjoy what should be a great summer!

Honda Accord Crosstour Loves Yakima Highlite Hitch Bike Rack installed by Rack Attack Coquitlam

16 09 2011

Yakima Highlite Hitch Rack and Skybox Lopro 15 Cargo box + Honda Accord Crosstour = Love at first sight.

Every now and then we come across a rack and car that were just made to be together. The Honda Crosstour is a combination of the speed and style you want in a Sedan/Sport Utility vehicle while giving enough space inside to be practical. Something similar can be said about the Yakima Highlite.

The Aluminum and Steel constructed Highlite was just released in the last year and weighs under 20 pounds, making it one of the lightest weight hitch mounted bike racks on the market. A nice thing about the Highlite is even though its light in weight its no lightweight, it can still carry as much weight as any similar sized rack out there. Thanks to its ant like weight and strength on a class 1 hitch you can carry 3 bikes opposed to the usual 2, Wowzers! The feathery weight of the Highlite makes it struggle-free and effortless (seriously who wants to work) to remove from the vehicle. Even your tech-dinosaur grandparents can figure this rack out, on the base of the rack there is a locking knob (shown above) which secures the rack as you tighten it, making the Highlite tool free. The Highlite comes in 2 and 3 bike models as well as a choice between white (The first and only White hitch rack, Pioneering!) and silver colors. The Highlite doesn’t even care what type of car you drive, big or small it comes ready for both 1 1/4 and 2 inch hitches making it non-biased and versatile. With a built in cable bike lock, you can sit and drink that pre-ride latte stress-free.

If you’re looking for a simple, secure and easy to use bike rack look no further then the Yakima Highlite, they considered everything making this rack, even adding two bottle openers on the arms for that after ride sparkling water drink. If you have questions about getting a hitch or about any of the bike racks we sell, drop by, email  or call us and one of our well trained Rackxperts (Rack Experts) will be happy to help.

Ride on!

Lexus RX400/ RX 400 Hybrid hitch with Thule T2 platform bike carrier

10 09 2010

At rack attack we do not only do roof rack systems for car; we also do hitches and install hitch mounted bike racks. The 2008 Lexus RX400 hybrid might quite possible have one the least hidden hitches on the market. due to the way the exhaust is set up there is no way to go around the back side of the muffler. The Thule T2 is the highest quality bike rack we carry, due to how easy it is to use aswell as how strong the body is on it. The T2 stands out from its competitors because it is so adjustable, with 19 inches of play you can fit anything from a mountain bike with 29 inch wheel to a small child’s bike with a 20 inch tire. another big perk of the Thule T2 is the fact that there is no contact points at all on the frame of the bike, the way it is held up is by the tires. this is a great rack for any bike from a down hill bike with a high-end aluminum frame to a road bike with a carbon fiber frame.  If there is anything that you would like to know about, feel free to post a message to the moderator, and it will be answered as soon as possible. Ford Fiesta 2011 with Thule 480R Traverse Foot Pack

9 09 2010

Ford Fiesta 2011 with Thule 480 traverse and Thule 594xt Side Arm

The 2011 Ford Fiesta just came out in the Canadian Market and since we work with a lot of dealerships we had a chance to Rack Attack it up with the Thule 480R Traverse. Luckily Thule is designed in Sweden so since the Fiesta has been over there since 2008 Thule already has a great fitting roof rack for it. We decided to go with the nicer looking Thule Foot pack 480R that comes with the Alumium Aero bars vs the 480 with the regular square bars. Also the new 480R/480 is a lot easier to install and is an updated version of the old 400xt/400xtr counter part. The Ford dealer was wanting to carry a high-end bikes so we recommended the Thule Side Arm that has a Alumium tray as well so they compliment each other well. The Thule Side Arm (XT)  comes as the (594XT) so it comes with the mounting not only for round and square bars like older non XT versions but with a universal mount that fits the Thule Aero bar and most factory bars out of the box! Yahoo no more paying for extra adaptors or having to retro fit racks to fit aero bars or factory racks.

2009 Subaru Legacy Wagon with Thule 440 rack and Yakima Highroller Bike Racks

18 03 2009

subaru-2009-legacy-wagon-2subaru-2009-legacy-wagon-1The New Subaru Legacy comes with a factoryrail but the factory cross bars are unable to handle the load of downhill mountain bikes, especially three of them. So under the recommendation of Rack Attack Coquitlam, this customer decided to go with the Thule 440 tower system with the SR2pad which fit’s the Subaru factory rail like a glove.  And to cut down any unwanted wind noise and drag, Rack Attack Coquitlam also recommends using the 870xt Thule Fairing. For carrying three downhill mountain bikes the customer had a choice of the Thule Side Arm, Yakima King Cobra, or Yakima  Highroller. The customer opted to go with the High Roller for it’s compatible with Fairings unlike the King Corba.  Because the customer wanted an easy install & uninstall,  and the cleanest look possible, it just made the most sense to go with the Yakima Highroller.
